Traditional authorities and religious leaders in Mali's Gao region organised collective prayers and blessings on Friday in support of the Malian defence and security forces. The gatherings took place across the region and in mosques in the urban commune of Gao, including the Koweit and Tombeau des Askia mosques. This initiative was aimed at showing support for the Malian armed forces through spiritual means.

A mobilisation meeting at the Gao governorate was held to coordinate the effort, chaired by Abouzeidi Ousmane Maiga, coordinator of the traditional authorities of the Gao region. Also in attendance were Bouya Ben Maouloud, focal point of the initiative to support Operation “Dougoukoloko,” and Ousmane Salah, president of the high Islamic council of the region and imam of the Koweit mosque. The meeting brought together various stakeholders to plan the prayer sessions.

During the mobilisation meeting, Ousmane Salah called on the populations of the region to implore the Almighty and His messenger through prayers, blessings, fasting and sacrifices. This call to action was part of the initiative to support Operation “Dougoukoloko” through spiritual means. The operation aims to enhance security in the region.

Bouya Ben Maouloud described the support for Operation “Dougoukoloko” by the traditional and religious leaders as very symbolic. He noted that the initiative came from the forces themselves, highlighting the collaborative effort between the authorities and the armed forces. This underscores the unity and solidarity in the region.

Abouzeidi Ousmane Maiga explained that the traditional authorities, the high Islamic council and the Imamate planned the initiative to support Operation “Dougoukoloko” through prayer sessions and blessings throughout the region. The goal was to rally spiritual support for the Malian defence and security forces. This effort reflects the community's commitment to the security and stability of the region.

The collective prayers and blessings were part of a broader effort to support the Malian armed forces in their operations. By engaging in these spiritual activities, the traditional and religious leaders aimed to foster a sense of unity and solidarity in the region. This initiative demonstrates the important role that traditional and religious leaders play in promoting peace and stability.

The support shown by the traditional and religious leaders in the Gao region for the Malian armed forces highlights the significance of community involvement in security efforts.
