The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has begun its 20th anniversary celebrations, marking two decades of operations in Ghana's aviation industry. The company was incorporated in 2006 as a limited liability company, following its separation from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). GACL's Managing Director, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, stated that the anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the company's journey, recognize past and present leaders, and renew commitment to Ghana's aviation industry.

Over the past 20 years, GACL has overseen significant airport infrastructure developments, including the construction of Terminal 3 at the Accra International Airport (AIA) and upgrades to the Tamale and Prempeh I International Airports in Tamale and Kumasi, respectively. The company is also repurposing Terminal 2 at AIA to serve international operations. These projects demonstrate Ghana's ambition to strengthen its aviation infrastructure and improve competitiveness in the West African sub-region.

Mrs Opare emphasized that GACL's achievements represent more than just building terminals and facilities; they reflect Ghana's aspirations, commitment to progress, and determination to position the country as a competitive aviation hub. Despite economic uncertainties, changing industry dynamics, and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, GACL has maintained safe, secure, and efficient airport operations.

The Managing Director commended GACL staff for their steadfastness in the face of challenges, describing them as central to the company's existence. She urged staff to uphold integrity, accountability, and professionalism while treating passengers with kindness and respect. As part of the anniversary launch, GACL unveiled its 20th anniversary logo, symbolizing the company's shared history, resilience, and ambitions for the future.

Mrs Opare outlined the next phase of GACL's development, focusing on stronger infrastructure, smarter technology, sustainable financial and operational performance, and improved service for passengers and stakeholders. She stressed that the next chapter must be guided by professionalism, accountability, innovation, and service to strengthen Ghana's position as a gateway to Africa and the rest of the world.

The 20th anniversary celebration, themed "A Legacy of Resilience, Developing Further, Serving Better," is an opportunity for GACL to reflect on its journey and renew its commitment to Ghana's aviation industry. The company aims to improve operational efficiency and enhance passenger experience by strengthening airport infrastructure.

As GACL looks to the future, the company is committed to maintaining safe, secure, and efficient airport operations while meeting changing passenger expectations and the highest applicable standards of health, safety, security, efficiency, and service excellence.
