The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced that passengers traveling through the Accra International Airport will now be required to undergo luggage screening at the entrance of departures before entering the departure hall. This new measure is aimed at enhancing security and ensuring safe, secure, and efficient airport operations. The screening will be conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission using scanning machines and sniffer dogs.

In light of the new security measures, travelers are advised to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time to allow adequate time for security screening, check-in, and other boarding formalities. The GACL has also reminded the public that access to the Departure Hall is restricted to traveling passengers only, and non-traveling persons will not be permitted entry.

The introduction of enhanced security screening measures is part of GACL's efforts to strengthen security and enhance passenger convenience. In July this year, GACL deployed new security screening equipment at passenger checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport. The upgraded technology allows for more efficient security checks while maintaining high aviation security standards.

The new security screening system features an Automatic Tray Return System designed to speed up the return of trays to passengers for repacking screened items, thereby reducing waiting times. Passengers can also keep their shoes and belts on unless additional checks are required based on security profiling. This new system does not require passengers to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from cabin baggage during screening.

The GACL has expressed its appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of all passengers and airport users as they continue to work with security agencies to strengthen security measures. The company is committed to ensuring safe, secure, and efficient airport operations for all. The enhanced security screening measures are expected to contribute to this goal.

The Accra International Airport is a major hub for travelers in West Africa, and the introduction of enhanced security screening measures is expected to have a positive impact on the airport's operations. The GACL's efforts to strengthen security and enhance passenger convenience are ongoing, and the company is working to ensure that the airport provides a safe and secure environment for all travelers.

The new security measures are being implemented in collaboration with security agencies, including the Narcotics Control Commission. The GACL's commitment to security is reflected in its investment in new security screening equipment and its efforts to enhance passenger convenience. The company is working to ensure that the airport's operations are safe, secure, and efficient.
