Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that he will move to the United States of America if the opposition loses the 2027 General Election. Gachagua, who is the leader of the DCP party, is pushing for a single opposition candidate to face President William Ruto in next year’s polls. However, their unity is facing major challenges due to competing interests and mistrust among opposition parties.

Gachagua feels that he can marshal enough numbers from the Mt Kenya region to defeat Ruto but has warned that his side risks losing if they are not united. He expressed his concerns during an interview on a vernacular radio station on Sunday, stating that he is convinced the opposition will win if they do not allow themselves to be divided. Gachagua emphasized the importance of unity in the opposition to achieve their goal.

The DCP leader revealed that he owns a home in Texas, USA, and has previously stayed there for nearly two months. He mentioned that if the opposition fails to stay united and he sees that their people have been misled and divided, he will leave Kenya and go to the US. Gachagua stressed that he has tried to unite the Mt Kenya region against President Ruto but if his efforts are unsuccessful, he will not stay in Kenya.

The Mt Kenya region has become a significant battleground in the upcoming elections, with President Ruto looking to woo voters again. Other leaders, including Ndindi Nyoro and Martha Karua, also command a following in the region. Gachagua’s comments bring to the fore the problems facing the opposition, where several leaders, including Edwin Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Fred Matiang’i, are angling for the presidential ticket.

Gachagua’s threat to flee to the US has sparked discussion about the state of the opposition and their chances in the 2027 elections. The opposition is facing challenges in uniting behind a single candidate, which could hand President Ruto an advantage. Gachagua’s efforts to rally support in the Mt Kenya region may be crucial in determining the outcome of the elections.

The 2027 General Election is expected to be a significant contest, with various leaders vying for the top spot. President Ruto is looking to maintain his position, while opposition leaders are seeking to unseat him. The unity of the opposition will be crucial in determining the outcome of the election.

Gachagua’s comments have highlighted the complexities of Kenyan politics and the challenges facing the opposition in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
