In an effort to increase access to financial services, Gabon's Bamboo microfinance institution is turning to digital solutions and public savings. According to its founder, Yvan N’na Mboma, the goal is to strengthen the institution's development and expand its reach. This comes as Bamboo prepares to launch a bond issuance through a public offering, set to conclude on October 12, 2026.

The idea for Bamboo was born during the Covid-19 pandemic, although it stems from a long-standing issue: limited access to financial services. As a banker with over 20 years of experience, N’na Mboma observed that many citizens struggled to open bank accounts due to requirements such as proof of employment. Bamboo aims to change this by allowing anyone to open an account, regardless of their social situation.

Today, Bamboo is a microfinance institution with a presence across Gabon's territory. It boasts nearly 30,000 clients and over 15 branches that cater to individuals who are not yet familiar with digital tools. The institution's mission is to enable citizens to access financial services using digital means. Its goal is to continue growing and supporting populations, particularly women entrepreneurs, through financing for their income-generating activities.

Bamboo's bond issuance is part of its strategy to accelerate growth. The institution currently has a balance sheet total of approximately 19 billion FCFA. The funds raised will be used to further develop Bamboo's services, with a focus on financing women's businesses and helping clients achieve financial independence.

The digital approach is at the heart of Bamboo's model. By leveraging technology, the institution aims to make financial services more accessible to a wider audience. This approach has already shown promise, with Bamboo's client base and territorial presence expanding significantly.

Bamboo's development plans include supporting women entrepreneurs and financing income-generating activities. The institution also aims to help clients build their financial independence through targeted loans. This strategy is aligned with its goal of promoting financial inclusion in Gabon.

With its bond issuance and ambitious growth plans, Bamboo is poised to play a significant role in Gabon's financial sector. The institution's focus on digital solutions and public savings could help increase access to financial services for thousands of citizens.
