The Agence Gabonaise de Presse (AGP) and China's Xinhua news agency are set to sign a memorandum of understanding in November, during Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema's state visit to China. This agreement aims to strengthen media cooperation between the two countries, promoting information exchange and collaboration between media outlets and think tanks from the Global South. The memorandum is expected to be signed in the presence of both heads of state.

According to sources, the agreement will focus on developing human resources, training, and technology transfer, benefiting the AGP, Gabon 24, and Gabon Télévisions. Training sessions may take place in Gabon, Beijing, or Kenya, where the African headquarters of China Media Group (CMG) is located. This cooperation will enable the sharing of expertise and knowledge, enhancing the capabilities of Gabon's media landscape.

The Chinese Ambassador to Gabon, S.E. Zhou Ping, emphasized the importance of strengthening media cooperation between the two nations. This cooperation will foster mutual understanding, information sharing, and promote friendship between the Chinese and Gabonese people. By signing this memorandum, Xinhua and AGP aim to solidify their professional relationship, facilitating information exchange and contributing to the growth of friendship and cooperation between Gabon and China.

This initiative builds upon the existing partnership between Xinhua and AGP, which was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement in April 2023 in Beijing. The upcoming memorandum will further enhance the collaboration between the two media agencies, allowing them to better serve their audiences and promote a deeper understanding of each other's cultures.

The agreement is part of a larger effort to promote South-South cooperation, which focuses on collaboration and exchange between countries from the Global South. By working together, Xinhua and AGP aim to provide a platform for sharing perspectives and experiences, promoting a more nuanced understanding of global issues.

The visit of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to China in November is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. The signing of the media cooperation agreement will be an important milestone in this process, demonstrating the commitment of both nations to enhancing their relationship.

The cooperation between Xinhua and AGP is expected to have a positive impact on the media landscape in Gabon, enabling the country to better engage with the global community and promote its own perspectives and stories. This agreement will also contribute to the growth of China-Africa relations, fostering greater understanding and cooperation between the two regions.
