The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has emphasized the need for stronger partnerships and data-driven measures to reduce road crashes and improve safety across Nigeria. At the 2026 Special Marshals Annual Conference, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, represented by Deputy Corps Marshal Pauline Olaye, made the call. The conference focused on strengthening the role of Special Marshals in road safety management.
The conference, themed “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnership and Data-Driven Road Safety Interventions,” brought together stakeholders to discuss road safety challenges. Mallam Mohammed noted that the changing road safety situation requires innovative and evidence-based approaches to emerging challenges. He urged Special Marshals to improve collaboration in road safety education, traffic management, and emergency response.
The Corps Marshal reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to continuous capacity building, stronger stakeholder engagement, and improved operational support for Special Marshals. He commended the Special Marshals for their voluntary service, noting that their contributions complement the work of Regular Marshals and help save lives on Nigerian roads. The 2025 Special Marshals Guidelines, which promote accountability and transparency, were also highlighted.
The guidelines aim to strengthen the Special Marshals scheme nationwide through leadership development and better coordination. Mallam Mohammed emphasized that the recommendations from the conference would enhance the scheme. The FRSC is working to improve road safety through strategic partnerships and data-driven interventions.
Zonal Coordinator, Special Marshals, Comrade Sani Adisa, called for closer cooperation among government agencies, communities, and civil society organisations. He noted that the conference would allow participants to share experiences and develop practical solutions to road safety needs in their respective zones. The Special Marshals play a crucial role in road safety management.
Comrade Adisa emphasized the need for Nigerians to join voluntary service and support efforts towards strengthening paramilitary agencies. The conference featured the presentation of honorary awards and awards of excellence to Special Marshals recognised for their contributions to road safety and public service. This recognition highlights the importance of voluntary service in road safety.
