Prophet Jimmy Alla-Mensah, a US-based Ghanaian prophet, is celebrating 20 years in prophetic ministry. Before his spiritual calling, he had a successful career in network and security engineering, working with major organisations such as Verizon and Lockheed Martin. His engineering background provided him with professional fulfilment, but he says his spiritual journey, which began with his born-again experience on April 14, 2004, led him to a different path. In November 2006, he made the significant decision to leave engineering and enter prophetic ministry.
Prophet Jimmy's transition to ministry was not a result of a failed career or lack of opportunities, but rather a growing conviction that God had a different assignment for his life. Unlike his engineering career, prophetic ministry was not something he had studied or prepared for professionally. He entered ministry without formal prophetic training, prior ministry experience, or the opportunity to understudy an experienced minister. He therefore had to learn while carrying the responsibilities of ministry, relying on prayer, Scripture study, personal discipline, and experience.
The experience taught Prophet Jimmy that having a calling does not automatically mean one has developed the maturity required to fulfil it. He emphasises that "anointing does not eliminate the need for wisdom, a calling does not remove the need for character, and spiritual gifts do not exempt anyone from learning." His experience has also strengthened his appreciation for mentorship, accountability, and sound biblical foundations. These lessons have been crucial in his journey as a prophet and minister.
The demands of ministry have introduced Prophet Jimmy to challenges quite different from those he encountered in engineering. He now deals directly with people facing sickness, broken relationships, financial difficulties, hopelessness, and spiritual struggles. He speaks of nights spent in prayer, long counselling hours, emotional exhaustion, disappointments, and the responsibility of standing with people through difficult moments. Despite these challenges, he finds meaning in seeing people regain hope and find strength.
Prophet Jimmy acknowledges that the joy of serving comes with sacrifices, but he remains grateful for the privilege of serving God and people. His engineering career provided professional fulfilment, but ministry has given him the opportunity to participate in something that reaches deeply into the lives of people. He has learned to appreciate the value of his new role and the impact it has on people's lives.
The journey has not been without difficult seasons for Prophet Jimmy. One particularly painful experience was watching a church he had worked hard to build decline from approximately 300 congregants to about 10. This experience brought questions about failure, purpose, and whether he had the strength to continue. However, it also taught him not to measure the success of a calling solely by attendance, popularity, or public recognition.
As Prophet Jimmy prepares to mark 20 years in prophetic ministry, he reflects on the journey as one that has tested his faith, challenged his assumptions, and reshaped his understanding of leadership and service. The anniversary celebration is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026, at House of Divine Glory Ministry International, 7895 Cessna Avenue, Suite B, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20879. The celebration will reflect the themes of "20 Years of Grace," "20 Years of Ministry," and "20 Years of God's Faithfulness."
