Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) Secretary General, Chakil Aboobacar, has called on participants of a 45-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme from Southern Africa's liberation movement parties to utilize their acquired skills to address people's challenges. The ceremony took place at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School (MJNLS) in Kibaha Municipality, Coast Region, Tanzania. Aboobacar emphasized the importance of prioritizing citizens' interests in governance.
The programme, which concluded with the graduation of 37 participants from five liberation movement parties, aimed to equip participants with skills to strengthen leadership and serve their communities effectively. The participating parties included CCM (Tanzania), FRELIMO (Mozambique), ANC (South Africa), SWAPO (Namibia), and ZANU-PF (Zimbabwe). Notably, the MPLA of Angola did not participate due to other party commitments.
Aboobacar highlighted that Southern African countries face common challenges such as unemployment and poverty. He urged the graduates to use their training to promote unity and solve people's problems. The FRELIMO leader emphasized that the course presents new opportunities for the parties to work together and address the increasing challenges faced by their communities.
CCM Deputy Secretary General, Aggrey Mwanri, acknowledged the programme as a significant step in preparing the next generation of leaders for the sister parties. Mwanri encouraged the graduates to use their knowledge to strengthen unity between their parties and the people, connect governments with citizens, and preserve cooperation among the parties.
The Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School (MJNLS) Principal, Professor Marcelina Chijoriga, reported that the programme had initially targeted 60 participants but only 37 successfully completed the course. The curriculum covered essential topics such as resource mobilisation, accountability, good governance, ethics, and strategic leadership. Chijoriga praised the pool of experts who contributed to the programme, including former ministers, professors, and highly qualified lecturers.
One of the participants, Dr Daniel Kashikola from the SWAPO Party of Namibia, expressed his appreciation for the training, stating that it had broadened his knowledge and would enable him to contribute more effectively to improving his party's performance and people's livelihoods. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including former Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, delegates from the Communist Party of China (CPC), and representatives of corporate organisations.
The Training of Trainers programme is seen as a crucial initiative in enhancing the capacity of liberation movement parties in Southern Africa.
