Harvestfield Healthcare FZE, a Nigerian-owned company, has begun commercial production of Synera DuoForte, a next-generation insecticide-treated net, in Ogun State. The company's manufacturing facility commenced operations on September 13, 2026. This development is part of efforts to boost Nigeria's fight against malaria. Harvestfield produces the nets under a manufacturing agreement with GDM Health Products.
Synera DuoForte is a dual active-ingredient long-lasting insecticidal net developed and owned by GDM Health Products. Unlike conventional insecticide-treated nets that rely primarily on pyrethroids, Synera DuoForte combines pyrethroids with a second insecticide that works through a different mode of action. The product is World Health Organisation-prequalified.
A representative of GDM Health Products, Jon Bastow, expressed pleasure in partnering with Harvestfield to bring Synera DuoForte to Nigeria. Nigeria has the biggest global malaria burden. The partnership supports the prequalification of Harvestfield's Ogun State manufacturing facility to make Synera DuoForte.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, emphasized the importance of building local capacity to manufacture health products. He said this aligns with Nigeria's health security goals. Prof Pate noted that a Nigeria-based facility producing next-generation insecticide-treated nets to international standards is a key achievement.
The Chairman, Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, Dr Abdul Mukhtar, highlighted the role of local manufacturing in strengthening Nigeria's healthcare value chain. He stressed that the focus is on producing health products locally, meeting international standards, and supplying them at a national scale.
Harvestfield has 26 years of experience in Nigerian vector control, delivering over 42 million insecticide-treated nets across all 36 states. The company has served as an exclusive national distribution partner for WHO-prequalified nets since 2018. This local production will support malaria prevention programs across 31 states.
The commencement of commercial operations at Harvestfield's facility marks a significant milestone in Nigeria's capacity to manufacture critical malaria prevention interventions locally. This development is expected to contribute to the country's efforts to combat malaria.
