The FilmLab Cabo Verde 2026 initiative has selected six young filmmakers from PALOP countries and the diaspora to participate in a 10-day program in Praia, Cabo Verde. The program, which runs from October 6 to 16, aims to provide participants with tools and knowledge to develop their professional careers and film projects. The selected participants include Isvânia Morázia from Angola, Deicy Sanches from Cabo Verde and the diaspora, Hermem Freire from Cabo Verde, Máx Maximiano from Cabo Verde and the diaspora, Fernando Moniz from Cabo Verde, and Sandro Fonseca from Cabo Verde.
During the program, participants will be immersed in a learning experience, exchanging ideas and gaining insights from national and international trainers and professionals in the film and audiovisual sector. The initiative is designed to equip participants with knowledge in areas such as distribution, financing, and sustainability of audiovisual projects. The program will also provide opportunities for participants to network with professionals and attend the Kafuka African Film Festival 2026, which takes place in Praia from October 15 to 18.
The FilmLab Cabo Verde 2026 program is an initiative of the AAMCM – Association of Friends of the Cinema Museum in Mozambique, developed under the PROCERIS project, funded by Camões, I.P. – Portuguese Cooperation. In Cabo Verde, the initiative is implemented in partnership with EKRAN Events and Parallax Productions, with additional support from Tela Digital Media Group of São Tomé and Príncipe.
The program aims to strengthen connections and collaboration among professionals in the PALOP and Timor-Leste region. Participants will have the opportunity to join the network of professionals and future activities of the REDE de Cinema e Audiovisual PALOP + TL. This will enable them to build relationships with filmmakers, producers, programmers, and other national and international professionals.
The selected participants will benefit from a comprehensive program that includes training, networking, and exposure to the film industry. The Kafuka African Film Festival 2026 will provide a platform for participants to engage with industry professionals, attend screenings, and learn about new trends and opportunities in African cinema.
