The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Alhaji Sani Usman, has received the prestigious Grand Pillar of Sports Development Award. This recognition was given for his contributions to the growth and promotion of sports at the institution. The award was presented during the grand finale of the 2026 Rector’s Cup, which took place at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi Sports Centre.
The 2026 Rector’s Cup was a significant event that brought together students from various schools of the polytechnic. The students competed in multiple sporting disciplines, including football, basketball, volleyball, and track events, in both male and female categories. The School of General Studies emerged as the overall best-performing school at the 2026 Rector’s Cup. They secured gold medals in both the male and female football categories. The School of Management Sciences was the runner-up, taking the silver medal. Additionally, the School of Environmental Technology was adjudged the Most Disciplined Team of the tournament, recognized for its exemplary conduct and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
During the grand finale, Alhaji Sani Usman commended the Sports Advisory Committee for organizing a colourful and successful sporting event. He appreciated the students for their impressive participation and commitment, noting that their enthusiasm significantly contributed to the success of the Rector’s Cup. The Rector encouraged students to sustain their active participation in sporting activities while emphasizing the importance of balancing sports with academic excellence.
The Rector reminded students that while sports are crucial for physical fitness, character development, and talent discovery, academic pursuit remains central to their success as students of the Polytechnic. Hon. Patrick Ogunyemi, representing the Chairman of the Governing Council and Council Sports Ambassador, expressed his delight at the impressive turnout of staff and students for the grand finale. He commended the Polytechnic community for embracing sports and assured them of the continued support of the Governing Council for sporting activities and development. Ogunyemi noted that sustained investment in sports would help students discover and develop their talents.
