The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that it will start its 2026 promotion examinations for more than 10,700 staff across 145 cadres on October 5. The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Mr. Emeka Eze, disclosed this information, stating that the exercise had been approved by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. This move aims to clear outstanding promotion backlogs and restore the process to its proper annual cycle.
According to Mr. Eze, the promotion examination will be a computer-based test (CBT) held at the National Open University of Nigeria. He emphasized that promotions will be based strictly on merit and available vacancies in line with the approved organogram and structure of the various agencies. The Commission has concluded arrangements to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise, leveraging the familiarity of most FCT workers with the CBT format.
The exercise is part of efforts to clear outstanding promotion backlogs inherited by the Commission and restore the process to its proper annual cycle. Mr. Eze noted that staff who successfully participated in the 2025 promotion exercise had already received their promotion letters. This development indicates the Commission's commitment to regularizing the promotion process for FCT workers.
Mr. Eze urged eligible workers to prepare adequately for the examination and comply strictly with all instructions. He warned them against bringing mobile phones into the examination halls and advised them to come with their regulation and confirmation letters for identification. Each candidate will have 45 minutes to complete the CBT, after which the system will automatically shut down and display the candidate’s result.
The chairman also advised workers to improve their computer literacy, noting that the promotion examination would continue to be conducted electronically. He assured candidates that the Commission had put measures in place to make the exercise transparent, competitive, and seamless. This approach aims to ensure that the promotion process is fair and efficient.
