The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested and paraded a married woman, Rukayat Muhammed, over the death of her alleged lover at a guest house in Gwarimpa, Abuja. According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, the suspect and her lover had checked into the Good Samaritan Guest House, 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, where the lover suddenly died during sex.
The deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, was initially reported missing by his family before his lifeless body was discovered along the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe under the bridge on August 26, 2026. The police had initially attributed the discovery of the body to kidnapping or “one chance” robbery, but further investigation revealed that the deceased was the same person whose disappearance had been reported by his family.
During the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased's mobile phone was missing, prompting investigators to track the device and establish his last known communications. The phone was later switched off, but investigators were able to identify the last person with whom the deceased had communicated as Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area, leading to her arrest.
Further investigation revealed that Rukayat and the deceased had been in a romantic relationship, with the suspect saving his contact on her phone under the name “Safiyat”. The suspect allegedly took the deceased's mobile phone and left the hotel after discovering that he had died, rather than immediately reporting the incident to the police.
The hotel management, unable to establish contact with the occupants of the room, gained access to the room and found the deceased's lifeless body. Two members of the hotel staff, Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, removed the body from the room and dumped it by the roadside in an attempt to distance the hotel and its management from the incident.
The police investigation has now unraveled a significant part of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body, but the exact cause and circumstances of the deceased's death have yet to be established. The commissioner stressed that further investigative processes are being undertaken to determine the full facts of the case.
The FCT Police Command has warned members of the public against concealing information, obstructing investigations, or undermining law enforcement efforts. The command has also demonstrated its determination to go beyond the surface of incidents and establish the facts through investigation, ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
