The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that major ongoing road projects across Abuja will be completed between December and early January. This announcement was made after Wike inspected ongoing projects in various locations, including Kaura, Life Camp, Gwarimpa, and the IBB Golf Course. The projects are being handled by different contractors, including Julius Berger and CBC Global. Wike expressed optimism that the completion of these projects would significantly transform the areas.
According to Wike, the contractor handling the Kaura district road and bridges has assured the FCT Administration that the project would be completed and handed over by December 15. Additionally, Julius Berger, which is handling the N5 road project in Life Camp, has committed to completing the project and the adjoining road linking the area to the Old Keffi Road by December. These projects are part of the FCT Administration's efforts to improve infrastructure development in the territory.
The N16 project in Gwarimpa, being executed by CBC Global, is expected to be completed by the first week of January. Wike described this project as a major infrastructure development involving bridges and difficult terrain. He expressed confidence that its completion would have a significant impact on the Gwarimpa area. The FCT Administration is also working to reopen the IBB International Golf Course, following directives by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the issues surrounding the facility.
Wike disclosed that Julius Berger has assured the administration that the rehabilitation of the golf course would be completed in time for a tournament scheduled to take place there in November. The Minister emphasized that these projects reflect the Tinubu administration's focus on infrastructure development in the FCT. He noted that the administration has redefined infrastructure development in the territory.
The completion of these projects ahead of the election period would amount to a Christmas gift to Abuja residents from President Tinubu, according to Wike. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects, stating that the administration is on track. The Minister added that the FCT Administration would continue to monitor the projects and ensure that contractors meet their agreed completion timelines.
On the implementation of the FCT's 2026 capital budget, Wike disclosed that the administration has recorded more than 60 per cent implementation despite the late release of the budget. He explained that the delay in releasing the budget had affected payments to some contractors, including Julius Berger, but noted that work resumed immediately after the budget was released.
The FCT Minister's inspection of the ongoing projects follows earlier reports that the FCT Administration had set December as a deadline for several major road projects across the territory. Wike's assurance of timely completion of these projects is a boost to residents who have been experiencing difficulties due to the ongoing construction work.
