The Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT), Ibadan, commenced a three-day conference on October 6, 2026, with a special focus on smart agriculture and emerging technologies. The conference, themed "Innovating For The Future: Integrating Science, Smart Agriculture And Emerging Technologies For Sustainability And Global Prosperity," aims to address pressing issues such as climate change, food insecurity, and technological disruption. The event is being held at the college auditorium.
The Provost of FCAH&PT, Dr. Moshood Popoola, declared the conference open and encouraged participants to share their research interests, discuss ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration. He emphasized that the conference should not end with the presentations, but rather, the relationships, collaborations, and ideas generated during the conference can be more valuable than the papers presented. Dr. Popoola urged participants to make the most of both academic sessions and social engagements incorporated into the conference program.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Mrs. Mutiat Salawu, welcomed participants and highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the conference. She noted that the committee received papers from diverse fields, including artificial intelligence, aquaculture, veterinary medicine, molecular sciences, policy analysis, and entrepreneurship. Mrs. Salawu emphasized that the breadth of topics is intentional, as no single discipline can solve complex sustainability problems in isolation.
The keynote speaker, Professor Babasola Olusaga, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, commended the college for hosting the conference. He stated that the theme is crucial, as it brings together stakeholders from various institutions to interact and engage in innovation that translates research into solving problems. Professor Olusaga noted that animal production is an area that suffers neglect in developing countries and that gatherings like this conference offer solutions to numerous challenges.
The conference aims to provide a platform for scholars to share knowledge, challenge assumptions, and listen across disciplines. Mrs. Salawu urged participants to approach technical sessions as a forum for genuine dialogue, asking difficult questions, and challenging assumptions. The conference features papers from various fields, and participants are expected to engage in meaningful discussions and collaborations.
The event has attracted stakeholders from colleges of animal health technologists, universities, industries, government, and farmers. Professor Olusaga emphasized that such gatherings offer workable ideas to address challenges faced in the industry. The conference is expected to foster collaboration and innovation in smart agriculture and emerging technologies.
The three-day conference will feature academic sessions, social engagements, and opportunities for participants to exchange contacts and identify areas for collaboration. The event is expected to conclude with a better understanding of how smart agriculture and emerging technologies can be integrated to achieve sustainability and global prosperity.
