A family in Kabarak village, Oldonyo-Orok area of Ang'ata Barirkoi Ward, Trans Mara South, is seeking justice after their relative, Leonard Kirui, died following an attack on Saturday night. Kirui sustained severe injuries during the incident and died while being rushed to hospital. His family reported that Kirui was abducted from outside his home by unknown individuals before being attacked with blunt objects.
According to Hillary Kirui, Leonard's brother, the family was having dinner at about 9:30 pm when they heard screams coming from nearby. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Kirui, but couldn't determine who killed him or who he had argued with. The family wants those responsible arrested so they can establish what led to Kirui's death. They are asking the government to track down the culprits and arrest them.
However, the police have given a different account of the events leading to Kirui's death. Trans Mara South Police Commander Enrico Lyomo Telewa stated that the incident occurred at Ona in Eldonyiro Sub-location after a dispute broke out among a group of young men who had been drinking. Four men attacked two youths, injuring both of them, with one suffering severe injuries from panga cuts and a fatal blow from a blunt metal object.
Telewa explained that Kirui was left at the scene before Good Samaritans found him and alerted police, who rushed him to hospital. Unfortunately, Kirui passed away just as he was about to be admitted to the Sub-District Hospital. Police have since arrested one suspect in connection with the incident and named other individuals as persons of interest.
Efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects, with investigations continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack. Kirui's body has been moved to Kilgoris Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination. The family is now awaiting the outcome of the police investigations and post-mortem examination as they seek answers over Kirui's death.
Mercy Kirui, Leonard's wife, is calling on the government to establish what led to her husband's death and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The family is seeking closure and justice, and the police are working to provide them with answers. The incident has raised concerns about security in the area.
The police investigation is ongoing, with one suspect arrested and others identified as persons of interest. The family is cooperating with the authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
