A helicopter carrying Zimbabwean business tycoon Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy, and three others crashed on September 30 at Kudenga farm in Marondera, Zimbabwe. The aircraft was traveling to Chivayo's rural home, where construction work was underway. An eyewitness, identified as Tonea, described the terrifying scale of the impact, noting that the helicopter did not simply fall and stop. After striking the ground, it continued moving across the farm for approximately 200 meters.

According to Tonea, the sheer violence of the impact shattered both the aircraft and its occupants, making it difficult for recovery teams to locate and retrieve the remains of those who perished. The helicopter itself was reduced to almost nothing. The eyewitness explained that the propellers made deep cuts in the ground, showing that they were still running when the aircraft hit the ground.

Investigators were able to positively identify only one personal item at the scene: an identity card belonging to Lucy Chivayo. All other belongings were scattered across the site. Tonea noted that a river runs through the area and reflected on how much more difficult the recovery operation would have been if the aircraft had come down in the water rather than on land.

The identities of the victims killed in the helicopter crash have been identified as Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke, and three others. Police said forensic and aviation experts have examined the scene as investigators work to establish what caused the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

A day before the crash, Chivayo met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and discussed plans for Zimbabwe. The president described the couple's death as a profound loss and said Chivayo had shared some of his plans just one day before the tragedy.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the business community in Zimbabwe, with many expressing their condolences to the families of the victims. Wicknell Chivayo was a well-known figure in Zimbabwe, with interests in various sectors.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and investigators are working to establish what led to the tragic incident. The incident has raised concerns about aviation safety in Zimbabwe, with many calling for improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
