South Korean company Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has delivered the "Ever Eclat," a 16,556 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) container ship to Evergreen. The vessel is the seventh in a series of 16 dual-fuel methanol ships ordered by the shipping line in mid-2023. Each ship in the series costs approximately $195 million. The new ship is owned and managed by Evergreen Marine Asia Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Singapore-based shipping line.
The "Ever Eclat" measures 369 meters in length and 53.60 meters in width, with a capacity for 21 rows of containers. The vessel has a deadweight tonnage of 184,000 tons and can operate with a draft of up to 17.50 meters. The ship is equipped with a MAN B&W 9G95ME-C10.5-LGIM-TIII main engine, producing 43,200 kW of power and a speed of up to 22 knots. Five generators provide up to 20,360 kW of electricity.
The "Ever Eclat" has begun operations on the "NEU7" service of THE Ocean Alliance, which Evergreen calls the "CES" service. The service currently includes vessels with capacities ranging from 12,000 to 20,000 TEUs. The new vessel will enhance Evergreen's capabilities in the European market. The ship's delivery marks a significant milestone in Evergreen's efforts to expand its fleet.
Evergreen has ordered a total of 16 ships in the series from SHI, with nine more vessels to be delivered by the end of 2027. The program will be completed with eight additional container ships of the same size, built by Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. These vessels, to be delivered in 2027 and 2028, will feature a different design.
The new ships will be equipped with dual-fuel methanol propulsion systems, allowing them to operate on either methanol or conventional fuel. This eco-friendly design aligns with Evergreen's efforts to reduce its environmental impact. The company aims to achieve sustainable growth through its fleet modernization.
The "Ever Eclat" and its sister ships will enable Evergreen to offer more efficient and reliable services to its customers. The addition of these vessels will also support the growth of international trade. Evergreen's continued investment in its fleet demonstrates its commitment to the shipping industry.
The first ship in the series built by Imabari Shipbuilding will be named "Ever Era." Evergreen will integrate these new vessels into its fleet, enhancing its capacity and competitiveness in the global market. The company is poised for further growth and expansion.
