The Euromed University of Fez (UEMF) has achieved a top national ranking in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, securing first place among Moroccan universities. With a global ranking of 323rd and seventh in Africa, UEMF recorded a total score of 7,737.5 points. This accomplishment reflects the university's commitment to sustainability and environmental management. The 2026 edition of the ranking assessed 2,016 universities across 110 countries.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings evaluate universities based on their performance in several areas linked to sustainable campus development. These areas include setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research. UEMF's achievement is a testament to its efforts in these areas. The university's ranking ahead of other Moroccan institutions, such as Ibn Tofail University and Mohammed V University in Rabat, demonstrates its leadership in sustainability.
Ibn Tofail University placed second nationally and 415th worldwide with 7,320 points, while Mohammed V University in Rabat came third among Moroccan institutions, ranking 1,589th globally with 3,567.5 points. These rankings highlight the competitive nature of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings and UEMF's strong performance. The university's commitment to a development model combining academic excellence, research, innovation, environmental and social responsibility, internationalization, and quality of its university environment has contributed to its success.
UEMF's latest distinction is part of a broader record of recognition across international university rankings. In the 2026 Round University Ranking (RUR), UEMF retained first place nationally. The university also ranked second in Africa in the previous RUR edition, behind the University of Cape Town in South Africa. The university's achievements extend beyond the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. UEMF also featured in the 2026 Times Higher Education ranking, where it ranked second in Morocco and fell within the 401-600 range globally. Additionally, UEMF cited results from ScholarGPS, which placed it first nationally, and U-Multirank, where it ranked first in Morocco in teaching and research and among the world’s top 25 universities for student mobility.
UEMF's research excellence is also reflected in its appearance in the 2025 Stanford-Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% of scientists. Eight of its researchers were recognized, highlighting the international visibility of research conducted at the institution.
