Etihad Airways has announced plans to increase its Abu Dhabi-Sydney service to twice daily from December 15, 2026. The additional services will provide travellers with two daily departure options throughout the week. All flights will be operated by Etihad's Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, offering more than 5,000 seats weekly in each direction between Abu Dhabi and Sydney.
The expanded schedule is aimed at strengthening connections between Australia and destinations across Etihad's network in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Africa, and Europe. Passengers connecting through Abu Dhabi will have onward connections to various European cities, including Zurich, Geneva, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, London, Manchester, and Dublin.
Etihad has been serving Sydney since 2007 and currently operates daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne with its Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline's Abu Dhabi-Sydney service will feature Business Class cabins with private suites and lie-flat beds, while Economy Class passengers will have access to 4K entertainment screens and Bluetooth audio.
High-speed Wi-Fi will be available throughout the aircraft, providing passengers with a seamless travel experience. The additional frequency will also make it easier for travellers to include Abu Dhabi stopovers in their journeys, offering greater flexibility when travelling between Australia and Etihad's growing global network.
According to Arik De, Etihad Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, the additional service will give passengers greater flexibility and strengthen connections between Australia and the airline's global network. The expanded schedule will also provide onward connections in Australia and New Zealand through Etihad's interline partners, including Qantas, Jetstar, and Air New Zealand.
The increase in flights is timed ahead of the Australian summer holiday season, providing travellers with more options for their trips. With the additional services, Etihad aims to cater to the growing demand for travel between Australia and the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Africa, and Europe.
