The education family in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State held a grand reception in honour of Dr. Peters Nwagor, the State Commissioner for Education, and other distinguished sons and daughters of the area for their contributions to educational development. The event took place at County Grammar School, Ikwerre-Etche. Dr. Nwagor was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Mina Tele Ikuru.
Dr. Nwagor expressed his gratitude for the honour, describing it as a demonstration of love and solidarity from the people of Etche. He stated that the reception was more than a celebration of his appointment, but a call to greater service and responsibility. As a proud son of Etche, he pledged to advance the educational agenda of the administration of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Governor Fubara's administration has demonstrated a clear determination to transform education at all levels, including teacher development, improved teaching and learning, technical and vocational education, tertiary education, research, innovation, and digital learning. Dr. Nwagor reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to strengthen the sector, focusing on school supervision, accountability, teacher professionalism, infrastructure, science and technology, and inclusive access.
Dr. Nwagor charged school heads and teachers in Etche to remain punctual, diligent, and dedicated to their duties. He also called on stakeholders to support government policies and remain united in pursuit of the future and well-being of the Rivers child. The Commissioner for Education emphasized that no school, community, or child would be considered too insignificant.
Chairman of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Etche LGA, Dr. Chigbu Samuel, commended Dr. Nwagor for his commitment to equity and fairness in repositioning education in the state. He pledged the unalloyed support of principals in the area. Other notable individuals honoured at the event included former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Mrs. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu.
The Chairman of the occasion and President-General of Ogbakor Etche, Dr. Silas Anyanwu, and the Royal Father of the Day, HRH Eze Dr. Ken Nwala, Onyeishi Agwuru Ulakwo, expressed their delight with Governor Fubara's choice of Dr. Nwagor. They described him as responsible and responsive and urged stakeholders to sustain support for government initiatives.
This event is not the first time Dr. Nwagor has been honoured for his contributions to education. Recently, the Rivers State Chapter of the Mangrove People Leadership Initiative, MAPLI, organised a Special Reception Banquet in his honour, where he reaffirmed his commitment to driving sustainable transformation in the state's education sector.
