The Eswatini National Association of Journalists (ESNAJ) has expressed deep sadness over the passing of journalist Bongani 'Bobo' Dlamini, who died on Tuesday. ESNAJ President Lwazi Dlamini described Bobo as a committed, humble and passionate journalist who contributed immensely to the growth and unity of the media fraternity in Eswatini. His dedication and comradeship helped shape the country's media industry.

Bobo, affectionately known as 'Mshini Kalova', left behind a legacy of commitment to journalism and the unity of media practitioners. He served as a member of ESNAJ's executive committee and played a significant role in its revival. The association credited him for his contribution to the successful hosting of the first National Media Awards on December 22, 2025, following a 13-year hiatus.

ESNAJ recalled Bobo as a member who was never afraid to stand by his convictions, raise concerns or openly express his views on matters affecting the organisation. He consistently made himself available during executive committee engagements and was firm in what he believed in. His voice, dedication and comradeship will be deeply missed, said ESNAJ President Lwazi Dlamini.

The Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) family is also mourning the loss of Bobo, who worked as a radio personality at EBIS and had previously had a short stint at the Times of Eswatini. His passing has drawn tributes from media practitioner Psychology Hlatshwayo, who described it as the fall of another giant in the broadcasting industry.

Hlatshwayo said Bobo's programmes had become part of everyday life for many Emaswati as he entertained, informed and connected with audiences through his distinctive broadcasting personality. Beyond the microphone, Hlatshwayo described him as a storyteller, journalist and passionate promoter of local arts and culture.

The media fraternity in Eswatini is mourning a broadcaster remembered not only for his work on radio but also for his contribution to strengthening the professional association representing journalists in the country. ESNAJ extended condolences to Bobo's family, friends, EBIS colleagues and the entire media fraternity.

This is the second loss for the EBIS family in a short period, following the death of Mbuyazwe Dlamini barely a month ago. The association's tribute to Bobo highlights the impact he had on the media industry in Eswatini and the void his passing has left.
