The Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, Nguema Obiang Mangue, has officially opened a tuna factory and the Hotel Annobón on the island of Annobón. The factory, built and managed by Pesconor, spans approximately 2,000 square meters and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including cold storage rooms, cutting and cleaning areas, cooking and sterilization rooms, and packaging sections. The facility is designed to process and conserve fish products, transforming the country's fishing resources for local consumption.
The tuna factory has the capacity to produce up to 1,500 cans of tuna per day, 200-300 kilograms of smoked fish, and around one ton of frozen fish daily. Additionally, the project includes utilizing organic waste to produce animal feed for poultry farming. Twenty-seven national technicians have received training in various specialties related to fish product processing, industrial refrigeration, and machinery operation for canning. The initiative aims to create jobs, particularly among Annobón's residents.
The second infrastructure unveiled was the Hotel Annobón, located in the Ajabo area, near Palia beach. The hotel features presidential rooms, suites, and conventional rooms, as well as complementary services. Its opening seeks to increase the island's accommodation capacity and promote the exploitation of its natural, landscape, and cultural attractions for tourism development. The hotel is expected to contribute to the country's economic diversification and improve living standards.
During the inauguration ceremony, Nguema Obiang Mangue emphasized that the projects align with the national development plan, focusing on enhancing the population's living conditions and providing infrastructure that supports economic diversification. He also highlighted his role in supervising the commission responsible for monitoring projects in Annobón and Corisco, stressing the importance of ensuring the quality and functionality of the facilities.
The ceremony also included the inauguration of military barracks housing and the laying of the foundation stone for a second desalination plant, which will have a production capacity of 800,000 liters of potable water per day. The project is expected to cost 2,200 million CFA francs. These initiatives are part of 48 development projects planned for Annobón, with a total budget of approximately 348,000 million CFA francs.
As part of the ceremony, Annobón residents presented gifts to the Head of State, the First Lady, and the Vice President, symbolizing their recognition and reaffirmation of Nguema Obiang Mangue's ties to the island. The Vice President's visit and the inauguration of these projects demonstrate the government's commitment to developing the island and improving the lives of its inhabitants.
The development projects in Annobón aim to promote sustainable economic growth, improve living standards, and provide essential infrastructure for the local population. The tuna factory and Hotel Annobón are expected to play a significant role in achieving these objectives, creating jobs, stimulating economic activity, and enhancing the island's economic prospects.
