Engineers India Limited (EIL) has secured an order worth over $450 million from Lagos-based Dangote Group for a greenfield refinery and petrochemical plant in Kenya. The project aims to strengthen fuel production in East Africa, reduce dependence on imports, and bolster regional energy security. Once completed, the plant will also supply petroleum products to global markets. EIL, an engineering consultancy organization under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will serve as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) consultant for the project.

The greenfield refinery and petrochemical plant will have a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day (BPD) and will be designed to process a wider range of crude grades. Dangote Group is expanding its presence in East Africa to cater to regional demand. The group has previously partnered with EIL for the 650,000 BPD Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex at the Lekki Free Zone in Nigeria, which has since been commissioned. EIL is also working on the refinery's expansion to 1.4 million BPD, a project expected to significantly expand Africa's refining capacity.

Dangote Group is a Nigerian multinational conglomerate with operations spanning upstream oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals, fertilizers, cement, sugar, and food. The group operates across 17 African countries. EIL's partnership with Dangote Group is a testament to the company's engineering and project management excellence. The contract agreement between the two parties is valued at over $450 million.

The project is expected to have a significant impact on the regional energy landscape. According to EIL, the refinery and petrochemical plant will help reduce Kenya's dependence on imported fuel and strengthen the country's energy security. The project will also create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region.

EIL's shares were trading at around Rs 302.80 apiece, up Rs 17.70, or 6.21%, from the previous close of Rs 285.10. The stock also hit a 52-week high of Rs 304.60. The company's performance is likely to be influenced by its growing order book and partnerships with major players in the energy sector.

The Kenya refinery project is part of Dangote Group's strategy to expand its presence in East Africa. The group is committed to investing in infrastructure development and energy security in the region. The project is expected to be completed in the near future, although a specific timeline has not been announced.

The partnership between EIL and Dangote Group highlights the growing collaboration between Indian and African companies in the energy sector. The project is expected to have a positive impact on India's economic ties with Africa and will contribute to the growth of the energy sector in the region.
