The Ekiti state government has empowered another batch of 100 persons with disabilities (PWDs) with vocational skills and working tools to promote self-reliance and inclusivity. The training and empowerment programme was organised by the Office of Disability Affairs in conjunction with the Office of Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion. The programme aims to equip PWDs with practical knowledge and skills to establish their own businesses.

The beneficiaries were trained in various vocational skills, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), tailoring, hairdressing, shoemaking, catering, and hospitality. The training was conducted at the Skills Acquisition Centre for Persons with Disabilities in Iloku, Ado-Ekiti. The programme is in line with the Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji administration's inclusive policy, which ensures that everyone is carried along in the shared prosperity agenda of the government.

The PWDs were provided with necessary machines, tools, and equipment to commence work in their various areas of training. The items include sewing machines, hairdressing and salon equipment, shoemaking machines and tools, ICT equipment, as well as catering and hospitality equipment. This support will enable the beneficiaries to put their newly acquired skills into practice and become self-reliant.

The graduation and empowerment ceremony was held at the premises of the Skills Acquisition Centre on Friday. The Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Oyeniyi Adebayo, attended the ceremony and commended the governor's administration for promoting inclusive governance and designing programmes that give every citizen a sense of belonging.

According to Mr Adebayo, the Oyebanji administration has improved the fortune of PWDs in the state through various programmes and inclusive policies. The administration's efforts aim to provide equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their physical condition, background, or social class.

The empowerment programme is a significant step towards promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment among PWDs in Ekiti state. The programme will also contribute to the state's economic growth and development by increasing the number of skilled and employed individuals.

The Ekiti state government's commitment to empowering PWDs demonstrates its dedication to creating a more inclusive and equitable society. The programme will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of PWDs in the state, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the economy and society.
