The Ekiti State government has commenced moves to reduce transport fares by 50 percent across the state with the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. This initiative is aimed at cushioning the effect of transportation costs on residents. The state governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, flagged off the 15 CNG buses donated by the Federal Government at the Ekiti State Transportation Agency in Ado Ekiti.

According to Governor Oyebanji, the deployment of the CNG buses marks a major step in the government's move to reduce transport costs for citizens in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directives. The governor expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the intervention, noting that the provision of the buses would significantly contribute to reducing the burden of transportation on the people.

The CNG buses will provide a more affordable means of transportation for residents across the state, with routes mapped out to operate from Ado Ekiti to Lagos, Ibadan, Onitsha, and Abuja. The Director General of the Ekiti State Transportation Agency, Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu, said the initiative would provide residents with more affordable and reliable transportation options.

Governor Oyebanji, accompanied by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, inspected the fleet of vehicles and urged the drivers' union to ensure that the gains are transmitted to commuters. He added that the state would continue to explore avenues to reduce the burden on citizens and would expand the fleet of vehicles to serve residents better.

The governor also inspected ongoing projects in different parts of the state and hailed President Tinubu's economic policies, which he said had allowed more resources to carry out programs and projects with direct impact on the people. He noted that the President's support had enabled the state to translate its vision into action and impact for the people.

The Ekiti State government's initiative is a pilot project aimed at reducing transportation costs, with the goal of achieving a 50 percent reduction. The governor charged all state governors to find ways to reduce transportation costs by October 1st, as transportation contributes significantly to the current economic challenges.

With the deployment of the 15 CNG buses, the Ekiti State government has taken a significant step towards providing affordable and accessible public transportation to its residents. The government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the welfare of the people, and the CNG buses are expected to make a positive impact on the lives of residents across the state.
