Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter tracking. This is to ensure that at least 90% of the total votes cast in the state go to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. Oyebanji gave the charge while inaugurating the council in Ado-Ekiti.
The governor expressed concern over voter apathy in the state, noting that despite having over one million registered voters, fewer than 400,000 people participated in the June 20 governorship election. He described this as unacceptable and emphasised that Ekiti could not afford to deliver anything less than 90% of the votes cast for Tinubu. Oyebanji secured 85.7% of the votes in the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
Oyebanji urged party members to set aside political differences and work with all willing supporters, irrespective of their party affiliations. He stressed that the task of mobilising voters should not be restricted to APC members alone. The governor criticised the overemphasis on political rallies, motorcades, and other campaign activities at the expense of grassroots mobilisation required to increase voter turnout.
The governor disclosed that the council would develop a comprehensive voter-tracking structure covering all 16 local government areas and polling units in the state within two weeks. Members are expected to identify and mobilise eligible voters ahead of the election. Oyebanji expressed appreciation to stakeholders for attending the inauguration, saying the council's composition reflected the party's determination to deliver a decisive victory for Tinubu.
In his remarks, Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, pledged the council's commitment to the assignment, describing the task as achievable given the experience and political structure available to the APC in the state. Bamidele commended Oyebanji for ensuring an inclusive composition of the council and assured the governor that members would work collectively to achieve a higher electoral performance for Tinubu in 2027.
Bamidele welcomed candidates of other political parties, including Dr. Wole Oluyede of the PDP, who attended the inauguration. He described their presence as a demonstration of political goodwill and an indication that the campaign council was open to broader collaboration. The Senate Leader noted that the recent governorship election had provided the APC with valuable experience and momentum ahead of the presidential poll.
The inauguration of the campaign council marks a significant step towards the 2027 presidential election. Oyebanji's charge to APC members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter tracking reflects the party's determination to secure a decisive victory for Tinubu in Ekiti State. The council's composition and the commitment of its members are expected to play a crucial role in achieving this goal.
