The Ekiti State Government has equipped 100 persons with disabilities with trade and work tools following their graduation from a skills acquisition training programme. The programme, organised by the Office of Disability Affairs and the Office of the Special Adviser, Special Education and Social Inclusion, aimed to empower PWDs with practical skills to become self-reliant. Governor Biodun Oyebanji's administration has prioritized inclusive governance and programmes for PWDs.

The beneficiaries were trained in various vocational skills, including Information and Communication Technology, tailoring, hairdressing, shoemaking, catering, and hospitality. They received machines, tools, and equipment, such as sewing machines and ICT equipment, to begin work in their areas of training. Oyebanji, represented by Chief of Staff Oyeniyi Adebayo, spoke at the graduation and empowerment ceremony in Ado Ekiti.

Oyebanji stated that the programme demonstrated his administration's commitment to building a society where PWDs can access opportunities, acquire skills, and contribute to the state's development. The initiative promotes independence, encourages entrepreneurship, and ensures PWDs are active participants in the state's economic and social development.

The Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola, noted that the programme has recorded steady growth since its inception in 2023. The programme started with 30 participants, increased to 40 in 2024, 60 in 2025, and 100 in 2026. Agboola attributed the expansion to the government's commitment to creating opportunities for PWDs.

Agboola highlighted that 10 of the 100 beneficiaries are parents of children with severe disabilities who can now pursue economic activities while their children receive therapy and care at the EKSG Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities. The centre provides a safe environment for children to receive therapy and care, enabling their parents to acquire skills and earn a livelihood.

Oyebanji charged the graduands to make good use of the skills and equipment provided, urging them to remain focused and determined to succeed. The governor emphasized the importance of inclusive governance and economic empowerment for all segments of the population, including PWDs.

The Ekiti State Government's programme for PWDs aims to promote economic empowerment and social inclusion. The government has provided the necessary support for PWDs to acquire skills and become self-reliant. The programme's steady growth reflects the government's commitment to creating opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their physical condition or background.
