Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing worsening insecurity, alleged injustice, and prolonged neglect of their welfare and that of their constituents. The lawmakers announced their resignation on Sunday, October 4. Those who resigned are Aliyu Ango Kagara, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, Faruk Musa Dosara, Bashir Abubakar Masama, Muktaru Nasiru Kaura, Nasiru Abdullahi, Bashar Bello, and Bashar Aliyu.

The lawmakers alleged that they have gone 32 months without salaries, allowances, and other entitlements, while accusing the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal of failing to give adequate attention to insecurity, particularly in rural communities. They expressed concern over the safety of their constituents, alleging that their repeated concerns had not received sufficient attention. Kagara said the situation had deteriorated to the extent that the lawmakers could no longer justify remaining in the APC.

The Zamfara State chapter of the APC said it had yet to receive official copies of the lawmakers' resignation letters. The party's Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Danmadamin Birnin Magaji, said the APC had only seen the documents circulating on social media and was awaiting formal communication through the lawmakers' respective political wards and local government structures.

The latest development follows earlier disagreements between the lawmakers and the party leadership. Reports indicate that the affected lawmakers had previously been suspended amid allegations that they attempted to impeach the Speaker of the state House of Assembly about a year ago. The lawmakers have not formally disclosed their next political destination, although there are claims of possible movement towards the ADC.

The resignations have further exposed the deepening political tensions within the Zamfara APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party will communicate its position after receiving the letters officially, stressing that the APC was not previously aware of the grievances cited by the lawmakers.

The lawmakers' exit has raised concerns about the stability of the APC in Zamfara State. The party has been experiencing internal conflicts, with several members defecting to other parties in recent months. The situation has created uncertainty about the party's chances in the 2027 elections.

The Zamfara State government has yet to react to the resignations. Governor Dauda Lawal's administration has been facing criticism over its handling of security and economic issues in the state. The resignations are likely to further complicate the state's political landscape.
