The Algerian government has launched several new educational facilities in Tebessa, aiming to enhance the quality of education in the region. On September 20, 2026, the Wali (Governor) of Tebessa, Ahmed Belhadad, inaugurated a new middle school, Qahairia Abdel Karim, in Dakan. This school is one of three new middle schools built in the area, specifically in the Dakan and Skanaska neighborhoods of the city and the new Zawia neighborhood in Bir El Ater.
During his visit, Belhadad received briefings on the new school year, focusing on reception structures and conditions for students. He then visited the elementary school, Deloul Taleb in Al-Jarf, where a new school canteen was opened. This canteen is one of eight new school canteens launched in Tebessa, providing meals for students. The Wali emphasized that 460 school canteens in the province have been providing hot meals since the start of the school year.
The Wali's visit continued at the elementary school, Shahid Razq Allah Lzahari, in the 1400 housing neighborhood in Dakan. This school is one of eight new school complexes launched in the region, equipped with modern facilities to accommodate students. The new school year in Tebessa has seen 194,932 students enroll in 623 educational institutions, including 437 elementary schools, 127 middle schools, and 59 high schools.
In addition to the new educational facilities, the Algerian government has also provided support for students and families. The Wali announced that school grants have been deposited into the accounts of parents before the summer break, totaling over 26.8 billion centimes for the two provinces. Furthermore, 53,628 school bags will be distributed to children from low-income families and orphans.
The government has also made efforts to provide resources for students, including textbooks and transportation. So far, 850,000 textbooks have been distributed to students across the three educational levels. Moreover, 40 libraries have been set up to sell textbooks in various municipalities. To support student transportation, 226 school buses have been allocated, and the Wali has approved licenses for private buses to be used for school transportation.
Health and safety measures have also been put in place for the new school year. The government has set up 40 units for healthcare and monitoring, ensuring students receive proper medical care.
