The head of Egypt's Social Insurance, General Jamal Awad, has stated that the new social insurance system eliminates geographical distribution restrictions, allowing citizens to submit and track their applications via phone. Awad emphasized that the previous system, which limited applicants to a single office, has been abolished. The new system is set to launch an electronic platform soon.
Awad accused foreign terrorist groups of spreading false information about the suspension of pension payments, taking advantage of the difficulties faced by Egyptians. He mentioned that 540,000 service requests are still being processed due to incomplete documentation submitted by service employees. Awad highlighted that 92.6% of insurance services have been completed for citizens.
Awad discussed the challenges faced by the insurance system, citing that 750,000 applications were not registered in the new or old system, creating a significant burden when the new system was launched. He addressed citizens who have experienced difficulties, stating that if an employee claims that documents have been lost, it is not necessarily an act of corruption but rather an inability to fulfill the requests.
The head of Social Insurance reported that the organization has achieved significant returns on its investments, with 20 billion Egyptian pounds in revenue. Additionally, the state treasury has paid 1.6 trillion pounds to the Social Insurance organization. Awad also noted that investments have increased by 212.9% over the past three years.
Awad dismissed allegations of corruption and theft within the organization, specifically referencing the tenure of former President Hosni Mubarak. He emphasized that comprehensive training programs will be implemented to enhance employee efficiency in processing insurance applications. Awad also mentioned that previously, it was not possible to process 60,000 applications simultaneously, but rather only 15,000.
Under the new system, Awad reported that 80,000 new applications are being processed daily, with a goal to reduce waiting periods to three days by 2027. He acknowledged that when the new system was launched, over 120,000 new pensioners experienced delays in receiving their benefits.
Awad concluded by stating that claims of suspended pension payments are unfounded and intended to mislead the public. The electronic platform is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and accessibility of social insurance services for Egyptian citizens.
