Egypt's Public Prosecution has released a statement concerning the "Matsadqsh" case, which involves suspects linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. According to the prosecution, investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a social media platform used by the Brotherhood to spread misinformation and fake news. The platform, managed by Brotherhood members abroad, aimed to discredit state institutions and officials.

The Public Prosecution received intelligence from the National Security Sector indicating that Muslim Brotherhood leaders abroad had instructed their cadres to create social media pages and platforms to spread rumors and false data. The goal was to incite citizens to protest and gather, with the ultimate aim of overthrowing the state and its institutions. The "Matsadqsh" page was identified as one of these platforms.

The prosecution issued a warrant for the arrest and search of the suspects, resulting in the detention of six individuals. Their lawyers attended the interrogation sessions. The suspects were found to be part of the Brotherhood's media committee and had been in contact with a fugitive member of the group abroad. They admitted to receiving monthly funding in foreign currency through bank transfers from a company owned by the fugitive member.

The investigations revealed that the suspects had been spreading false news and rumors about state institutions and officials. They also admitted to creating and publishing content aimed at discrediting the government. The suspects received funding from abroad and were in contact with Brotherhood members through encrypted messaging apps.

The prosecution found evidence of the suspects' involvement with the Brotherhood, including messages and emails exchanged with fugitive members. One suspect, a journalist, was found to have published posts supporting the Brotherhood on social media. The prosecution also found that the suspects had been working together to spread misinformation and create unrest.

The suspects denied some of the allegations, but the prosecution found evidence to support the charges. The Public Prosecution has ordered the suspects to be held in pre-trial detention, and investigations are ongoing. The case is numbered 8083 of 2026, related to the High Security State.

The Egyptian authorities have taken measures to address the spread of misinformation and to hold accountable those involved in such activities. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to counter extremist groups and to maintain national security.
