Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouli, accompanied by Minister of Local Development and Environment Dr. Manal Awad and Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber, inspected several agriculture and afforestation projects in Cairo. The projects aim to implement President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to adopt a comprehensive plan to green various governorates. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of increasing green spaces and improving the urban environment.
During the inspection, Dr. Madbouli reviewed the executive mechanisms to expand tree cover and green spaces along main roads, highways, and city entrances. He stressed the need to increase per capita green spaces and improve quality of life. The Minister of Local Development and Environment confirmed the ministry's support for governorates to implement the President's directives and expand afforestation efforts.
The Prime Minister inspected afforestation works under the Ibrahim El-Arabi Bridge and in the area around the Prophet's Mosque. He then visited the area under the Civilizations Axis to monitor afforestation efforts. Dr. Madbouli emphasized the need to continue working on this environmental project in all governorates.
Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber explained the governorate's executive plan to implement the President's directives. The plan involves a participatory approach with three main components: executive agencies, civil society organizations, and citizens. The governorate aims to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation and intensify tree planting, especially in main roads and suitable areas.
The governorate has started implementing the plan with the help of a specialized consulting firm. The firm has chosen suitable tree species, focusing on shade-providing trees that consume less water. The governorate has already planted over 3,000 trees and 700,000 shrubs and plants in various areas.
The governorate aims to plant one million trees within a year, including 60,000 trees and 800,000 shrubs and plants. The governorate will also create a botanical identity for each district, choosing plants that suit its nature. Dr. Madbouli emphasized the importance of public participation in protecting trees and green spaces.
The Prime Minister's tour concluded with an emphasis on the importance of collective responsibility in protecting trees and green spaces. He stressed the need to continue working on this large environmental project and to expand it to various areas of the Greater Cairo region. The project aims to improve the urban environment and provide a better quality of life for citizens.
