Egyptian parliament member Hanyd El-Magazi has submitted a request for information to the Minister of Education and Technical Education regarding the mechanisms for including Arabic and history in the curricula of international schools. El-Magazi emphasized the importance of the Arabic language and Egyptian history, while also acknowledging the role of Al-Azhar in preserving the Arabic language.
El-Magazi stressed that translating this goal into a successful educational policy requires careful attention to detail, as the curriculum, evaluation, and timing of implementation directly impact students' futures. She noted that a scientific approach to any changes in evaluation requires compatibility between the required content, learning opportunities, and measurement tools, as well as studying its impact on different groups of students.
The parliament member emphasized that the unity of the exam alone is not enough to ensure fairness if students have different preparation opportunities. She called for determining what students have actually studied, identifying gaps that need to be addressed, and providing the necessary time and support, especially for those nearing completion of their international certificates.
El-Magazi requested that the ministry listen to parents, who can provide insight into the reality of their children's education and the academic and financial burdens they face. She stated that parents raise specific concerns about their children's futures, and it is the ministry's responsibility to address these concerns seriously.
The success of teaching Arabic and history, according to El-Magazi, is measured by students' ability to read, express themselves, and understand their country's history. She emphasized that including these subjects in the overall score must be based on sufficient educational preparation and clear evaluation criteria to achieve an educational impact commensurate with the weight assigned to them.
El-Magazi called for a suitable transitional phase for students already enrolled, as well as foundation and support programs within schools, and the announcement of curricula, exam specifications, and correction and appeal criteria in a timely manner. She also emphasized the need to verify the availability of qualified teachers and necessary study hours.
The parliament member stressed that the Education Committee in the House of Representatives must discuss the crisis in the presence of the ministry, evaluation experts, school representatives, and parents to reach clear procedures that achieve the educational goal and protect students' futures.
