The Egyptian National Railway Authority has recently released an infographic outlining the terms and prices of public and student subscriptions for train travel. This new system, which came into effect on September 15, 2026, aims to provide more services and discounts for various groups of people, including students and the general public. The subscriptions are available for different types of trains and travel durations.
For public subscriptions, the new system allows workers in the public and private sectors to obtain subscriptions with a maximum of 40 trips per month, covering a distance of up to 500 kilometers. The beneficiary's contribution to the subscription cost will vary based on the type of train, travel duration, and class of service. For example, on "Tahyya Misr" trains, subscribers will bear 70% of the cost for a one-month subscription, decreasing to 50% for a 12-month subscription.
On "Third Dynamic Ventilation" trains, subscribers will bear 75% of the cost for a one-month subscription, decreasing to 55% for a 12-month subscription. The National Railway Authority will cover the remaining percentage of the subscription cost. Subscribers can also enjoy discounts based on the full ticket price. Holders of third-class dynamic ventilation subscriptions can travel on designated trains without paying a reservation fee.
However, if they wish to reserve a seat, they must go to the ticket counter to complete the reservation procedures. If a subscriber wants to travel on a higher-class train than their subscription, they must go to the ticket counter to obtain a difference ticket. Failure to do so will result in being treated as a passenger without a ticket, and the applicable fare and fine will be collected.
The National Railway Authority has given special attention to students, allowing them to obtain subscriptions for train travel at discounted rates. Student subscriptions are available for 9 months, covering the distance between the student's residence and place of study, with a maximum of 400 kilometers and 40 trips per month. The student will bear a percentage of the subscription cost, which varies based on the type of train and travel duration.
For example, on "Tahyya Misr" trains, students will bear 13.75% of the cost for a 9-month subscription and 16.25% for a 3-month subscription. On "Third Dynamic Ventilation" and "Third Air-Conditioned" trains, students will bear 15% and 17.50% of the cost, respectively. To obtain a subscription, students must submit a request form, a copy of their national ID, and two recent photos, all stamped with the school or university seal.
The National Railway Authority has allocated 45 counters at major stations to expedite the subscription process and provide organized services. The authority emphasizes that subscriptions are personal and can only be used by the holder, and any misuse will result in cancellation and legal action. This new system aims to improve the level of service provided to citizens, respond to their needs, and offer affordable alternatives for daily travel.
