The Egyptian Ministry of Local Development and Environment, led by Minister Manal Awad, has emphasized its focus on investment and partnership with the private sector. The ministry aims to train and build the capacity of local government employees, particularly in formulating investment opportunities and optimizing resources. This effort aligns with the state's sustainable development goals and maximizing local resources.

The ministry recently reviewed a report on a workshop organized by the Technical Support Project for the Ministry in areas of decentralization and integrated local development. The project is implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and funded by the European Union. The workshop is part of the minister's directives to support and enhance economic development activities and improve the capabilities of local government employees.

The project organized a second-phase training program on economic development and investment opportunities. The program included participation from deputy governors of four governorates: Fayoum, Beni Suef, Luxor, and Aswan. Representatives from the Ministries of Local Development and Environment, Investment and Foreign Trade, and groups from the four participating governorates also attended.

The training program aimed to enhance the efficiency of local government employees in planning and investment promotion. It sought to form a local economic development team in each of the four governorates and activate the role of economic and social councils. The program focused on identifying investment opportunities, attracting investors, and promoting partnerships with the private sector.

The second phase of the training involved discussing and evaluating groups and investment opportunities from each governorate. A committee comprising representatives from the Ministries of Investment and Foreign Trade, Local Development and Environment, and the project team facilitated the discussions. The program also included deputy governors from the four governorates.

The workshop concluded with a review of the most important projects that received high evaluation scores, with one project selected from each governorate. The selected projects and individuals will form the nucleus of the local economic development team in each governorate. The Ministry of Local Development and Environment aims to generalize the training material on local economic development to other governorates.

The ministry's efforts focus on promoting economic development, improving local government capabilities, and enhancing partnerships with the private sector. By providing training and support, the ministry aims to increase investment opportunities, create jobs, and achieve sustainable economic growth.
