The Egyptian Ministry of Solidarity has launched a comprehensive system for elderly care and protection. On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, which falls on October 1st, Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Maya Morsi received a report from the Central Administration for Care on the efforts made by the ministry to support the elderly. The ministry aims to provide a comprehensive system of care, protection, and empowerment to enhance the quality of life for older adults.

The ministry provides various services, including home care and support within the family environment, to help the elderly continue living in their homes and practice their daily lives in a familiar environment. The ministry also provides healthcare, social, and psychological care in coordination with relevant authorities and civil society institutions. Additionally, the ministry has established a fund for elderly care, as stipulated by Law No. 19 of 2024, to support the rights of older adults and enhance social protection services.

The Ministry of Solidarity is working to enhance the health of older adults by supporting the implementation of specialized medical convoys in cooperation with relevant ministries, authorities, and civil society institutions. This aims to provide medical services to the elderly, especially those residing in care homes, and meet their health needs according to their different situations and needs.

The Ministry of Interior has decided to open police hospitals to provide free medical examinations for elderly residents in care homes affiliated with the Ministry of Solidarity. This initiative will be implemented throughout October, with hospitals in various cities, including Cairo, Alexandria, and Tanta, providing free medical services to the elderly on Fridays.

The Ministry of Solidarity is also collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Population to conduct field visits to a number of elderly care homes across various governorates. This aims to provide examination and early detection services for diseases and health problems common among older adults, utilizing services offered within the framework of initiatives launched by the President.

The Ministry of Solidarity emphasizes the importance of protecting older adults from violence, neglect, and exploitation by receiving and examining complaints related to them and dealing with them in accordance with the regulations. The ministry also focuses on the role of families in providing care and support to older adults, promoting awareness of the importance of providing psychological and social support.

The Ministry of Solidarity is working to enhance the capabilities of workers and caregivers through training and qualification, which enables them to professionally and humanely deal with older adults. The ministry also supports the participation of older adults in social, cultural, and recreational activities and utilizes their experiences and expertise.
