The Egyptian Ministry of Labor has intensified its efforts to enhance occupational safety and health standards across the country. Following directives from Minister of Labor Hassan Raddad, the Central Administration for Occupational Safety and Health has been conducting a series of inspections on facilities to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations. This initiative aims to provide a safe and healthy work environment, protect workers and facilities, and support the stability of the production process and national economy.
Between September 28 and October 1, 2026, the Central Administration for Occupational Safety and Health, through its inspection units under the Ministry of Labor's directorates in various governorates, conducted inspections on 910 facilities and re-inspected 732 facilities that had been given legal deadlines to comply with regulations. The inspections resulted in 197 facilities being deemed compliant with safety and health standards, while 379 facilities were issued reports for non-compliance.
The Ministry of Labor has taken further action against non-compliant facilities, referring 41 facilities to the relevant authorities for necessary legal action and recommending the closure of 23 facilities where necessary. The Ministry emphasizes its commitment to applying the law and prioritizing worker safety. In addition to inspections, the Ministry has been working with relevant government agencies, including the General Industrial Development Authority, to ensure that industrial facilities comply with safety and health standards.
The Ministry has also participated in 167 licensing committees for public establishments, in coordination with the Ministry of Local Development, and has inspected 473 facilities to ensure compliance with safety and health standards as a prerequisite for licensing. Furthermore, the Ministry's occupational safety and health inspectors have participated in 8 medical evaluation committees, reviewing cases of 148 workers, and in 6 five-member committees, examining 83 cases of workers to determine their eligibility for lighter work or retirement.
The Ministry's efforts extend beyond inspections and enforcement to include medical, awareness-raising, and preventive aspects. Inspectors have participated in 45 occupational safety and health committees nationwide to raise awareness among workers and their representatives about safety standards and prevention methods. Additionally, 23 training and awareness-raising seminars have been organized to educate workers about safety and health standards and the risks associated with their work environment.
The Ministry has also conducted 49 joint inspection campaigns with local authorities, inspecting 208 facilities to ensure compliance with safety and health standards. These campaigns aim to promote cooperation between government agencies in monitoring safety and health standards and enforcing legal regulations. According to a Ministry statement, the occupational safety and health system aims not only to inspect and penalize but also to prevent, raise awareness, and cooperate with stakeholders to achieve a safe and stable work environment.
The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to developing the occupational safety and health system in line with the directives of the political leadership and the goals of the new republic. The Ministry aims to provide a decent and safe work environment, promote a culture of prevention and safety, and protect workers and facilities from risks, ultimately supporting the national economy.
