Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdel Aziz Kenoswa, recently visited Senghor University in Alexandria to inspect the new campus and assess the start of the new academic year 2026/2027. The visit was attended by Dr. Hani Hilal, Chairman of the University's Board of Directors, and Dr. Jean-Marc Laforest, Executive Director of the university. The new campus was officially opened in May by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The university is a model for cooperation between Egypt, Africa, and Francophone countries in education and capacity building. The new campus, which spans 10 acres, includes two academic buildings, an administrative building, a conference hall, a restaurant, and four student dormitories. The campus also features sports facilities, including a gym, swimming pool, and multi-purpose sports field. The university aims to provide a comprehensive educational environment for students from African countries.
During his visit, Kenoswa met with faculty members and students to discuss their vision for the educational process and academic programs. He emphasized the importance of providing an integrated educational environment that promotes interaction between students from different African countries and supports the exchange of experiences and cultures. The university currently has 143 students from the 20th batch for the 2025-2027 academic years.
Kenoswa highlighted the Egyptian state's support for the university, citing its role in preparing African cadres capable of contributing to development efforts in their countries. He also mentioned Egypt's efforts to expand the establishment of Egyptian university branches in Africa, including branches of Alexandria University in Juba, South Sudan, and N'Djamena, Chad, and Cairo University in Khartoum, Sudan.
The university has become a key player in Egypt's cooperation with Africa in the field of education. Since its establishment, the university has graduated over 4,000 students from 43 countries. The university offers specialized programs in culture, environment, management, and health. Its goal is to prepare leaders capable of supporting sustainable development efforts in Africa and Haiti.
Kenoswa expressed his gratitude to President El-Sisi for his support for the university, which reflects the Egyptian state's commitment to enhancing cooperation with African countries in education and capacity building. The minister emphasized the importance of building human capacity as a key axis for achieving sustainable development.
