Egyptian Justice Minister, Mahmoud Helmy El-Sharif, recently visited China to explore smart technologies that can be applied to the Egyptian justice system. During his visit, El-Sharif met with David Wang, the current rotating president of Huawei, and Benjamin Hu, president of Huawei Egypt. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and Huawei to implement a smart justice system.
The Egyptian government aims to digitally transform the justice system, making it more efficient and accessible to citizens. This initiative aligns with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's vision to modernize the justice system and utilize the latest technology to improve services. El-Sharif emphasized that Egypt is moving rapidly to digitize the justice system and utilize the latest solutions to provide easy judicial services.
During the visit, El-Sharif and the Huawei team discussed potential collaboration on implementing a fully digital litigation system and supporting Egyptian courts to improve litigation efficiency and speed up case resolution. They also explored ways to utilize data centers and cloud computing infrastructure recently established in Egypt to host Ministry of Justice applications on a dedicated cloud.
El-Sharif toured Huawei's advanced technology demonstration room, where he learned about the company's latest innovations in smart city management, data centers, and infrastructure support for judicial institutions. He also visited the Shenzhen Digital Court, which uses artificial intelligence in civil cases and provides legal advice to litigants.
The Egyptian delegation was introduced to China's experience with digital litigation, including electronic applications for case consideration, remote litigation, and voice-to-text conversion using artificial intelligence. In return, El-Sharif shared Egypt's experience with digitalizing criminal courts, remote litigation, and voice-to-text conversion in various Egyptian dialects.
El-Sharif also met with representatives from TDH, a company specializing in digital judicial applications and devices for digital justice. The company plans to establish a regional branch in Cairo to further collaborate with the Egyptian Ministry of Justice. The minister expressed his appreciation for the technological advancements he witnessed during the visit.
The visit concluded with El-Sharif emphasizing the importance of continued coordination between the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and Huawei to ensure the implementation of international standards in the Egyptian justice system. The goal is to achieve a significant transformation in the justice system, making it more efficient and accessible to citizens.
