Egyptian Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Dr. Mohamed Farid Salah recently visited Paris, where he met with leaders of four major French financial institutions: BNP Paribas, Societe Generale, Credit Agricole, and Amundi. The meetings took place on the sidelines of the Egyptian-French Business Forum. The discussions focused on promoting investment, financing projects, and capital market opportunities.
During the meetings, Minister Farid reviewed the latest developments in the government's privatization program, including the upcoming floatation of Egypt Life Insurance Company. He emphasized the importance of these floatations in deepening the capital market and providing new investment opportunities. The minister also highlighted the role of listing and floatation on the stock exchange in enhancing corporate governance and improving company efficiency.
The minister expressed Egypt's commitment to diversifying partnerships with international financial institutions, which would increase the effectiveness of promoting Egyptian investment opportunities and attract more foreign investors. He also mentioned the goal of attracting high-value-added investments that support industrial development, technology localization, and Egypt's transformation into a production and export hub.
The minister reviewed the Egyptian capital market's progress, driven by growth in market value, trading volumes, and an increasing number of new investors. This growth is supported by the development of digital infrastructure, simplified trading procedures, and expanded participation. He invited the four financial institutions to explore available investment and financing opportunities with state-owned and private sector companies.
Representatives of the French financial institutions shared their expertise in banking, corporate and project financing, investment, capital markets, and asset management. They also discussed their global networks of clients and investors. Both parties agreed to provide the four financial institutions with information on upcoming government floatations, including Cairo Bank and Egypt Life Insurance Company.
The meetings were attended by several leaders of the financial institutions, including representatives from BNP Paribas, Amundi, Credit Agricole, and Societe Generale, as well as Egyptian Ambassador to France Dr. Tarek Dahroug. The parties discussed ways to enhance cooperation and identify areas for future collaboration.
The discussions concluded with an agreement to study available investment and financing opportunities and determine areas and mechanisms for cooperation in the coming period.
