In a significant medical achievement, a team of doctors at Zagazig General Hospital in Egypt's Sharqia Governorate successfully performed a complex heart surgery to install a cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) for a patient suffering from severe heart muscle weakness and coronary artery disease. The surgery, which was carried out on state funds, cost over 300,000 Egyptian pounds and was done without any financial burden on the patient.

According to Dr. Ahmed El-Belly, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Sharqia Governorate, the operation was performed after a thorough evaluation of the patient's condition by a team of cardiologists and cardiac electrophysiologists. The assessment revealed that the patient required the installation of a CRT-D device to mitigate the risks of life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances and protect him from potential complications.

The surgical team was led by Dr. Sayed Farag, a professor of cardiology and catheterization, and included Dr. Yasser Amin, head of the cardiology department, Dr. Hussam Attia, a consultant cardiologist and catheterization specialist, and Dr. Mohamed Zardaq, a consultant cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist. The team also included other cardiologists, nurses, and technicians who contributed to the success of the operation.

The patient was admitted to Zagazig General Hospital, where he underwent necessary medical tests and evaluation by specialized medical teams before the decision was made to perform the catheterization and install the cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator. The procedure aimed to improve the efficiency of the heart muscle and protect against life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances.

The operation was carried out under the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, and Hazem El-Ashmouni, Governor of Sharqia Governorate. The surgery is part of the efforts to improve the quality of medical services provided to citizens and expand specialized services in governorate hospitals while reducing the financial burden on patients.

Dr. Ahmed El-Belly praised the efforts of the medical team at the cardiac catheterization unit at Zagazig General Hospital and the coordination between medical teams, technical teams, and the pharmacy to provide the necessary supplies and complete the operation successfully. He emphasized the importance of continuing to develop specialized medical services provided to patients.

The successful surgery reflects the capabilities of Egyptian hospitals and medical teams in performing complex operations and providing high-quality medical care to patients. The patient is currently recovering and is being closely monitored according to the treatment plan. Key points: A complex heart surgery was performed at Zagazig General Hospital.
