The Egyptian high schools have issued a statement to clarify the rules governing the Egyptian baccalaureate system and to prevent confusion between attendance and academic performance. According to the law, students must attend at least 85% of classes to be eligible to take the exam. This requirement is separate from the 60% threshold for completing tasks and assessments.

The law, which regulates attendance and absenteeism, states that students must attend at least 85% of classes to take the exam. The law also allows for the expulsion of students who miss more than 15 consecutive days or 30 separate days without a valid excuse. The 85% attendance requirement is a standalone condition for taking the exam and cannot be replaced by the 60% threshold for tasks and assessments.

In addition to the attendance requirement, students must also complete 60% of tasks and assessments for each subject to be eligible to take the baccalaureate exam. This requirement applies to students in the second and third years of the baccalaureate program, starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. The assessments include weekly and monthly evaluations, projects, and homework.

The assessment system consists of several components, including a project worth 15 points, weekly evaluations worth 20 points, homework and class participation worth 15 points, behavior and attendance worth 10 points, and monthly evaluations worth 20 points each. Students must complete 60% of these assessments to meet the eligibility requirement.

The high schools emphasized that there is no conflict between the two conditions. The 85% attendance requirement is a legal condition related to attendance and regularity, while the 60% threshold is a specific requirement for the baccalaureate program related to completing tasks and assessments. Meeting one condition does not exempt students from meeting the other.

The schools stressed that completing 60% of tasks and assessments does not replace the attendance requirement. Each condition has its own basis and independent criteria. Students must meet both conditions to be eligible to take the baccalaureate exam.

The clarification aims to inform students and parents about the requirements for taking the baccalaureate exam. The Egyptian Ministry of Education and the high schools are working to ensure that students understand the conditions and can prepare accordingly.
