The Egyptian Engineers' Union has issued a series of new decisions during a meeting on October 4. The decisions cover various aspects, including pension payments and residential unit allocations. The union's council has agreed to pay full pensions that were previously suspended or not paid due to failure to update data. This decision was made after presenting it to the Pensions and Allowances Committee and obtaining approval from the Higher Council, in accordance with the law.
The union has also decided to pay an exceptional pension for two years to certain cases of engineers' daughters who did not receive their pensions at the time of their father's death due to work or marriage. However, they can now apply for the pension after changes in their circumstances, such as leaving their job or getting divorced. Additionally, the council has rejected the registration of high school graduates from the literary stream, emphasizing that they will take all necessary legal actions to counter this issue.
The Engineers' Union has also addressed issues related to graduates who do not meet the registration requirements but have obtained court judgments allowing them to register with the union. The council has decided to compile and study all such cases, communicate with the Prime Minister and the Higher Education Council, and assign the union's president and secretary-general to directly engage with these parties. Furthermore, the council has strongly rejected any changes to the admission requirements for engineering colleges, which currently only accept students with a high school diploma in the scientific stream or equivalent technical diplomas.
In terms of housing, the union has approved the allocation of 143 residential units in a project in the Sixth of October City for sale, following a specific set of conditions. The units include 134 partially finished and 9 fully finished apartments. The union has also agreed to award a contract for the construction of a new cemetery in the Sixth of October City to a specific company and plans to hold a public draw for the allocation of graves once construction begins.
The Engineers' Union has also made decisions regarding its internal affairs and services. The council has agreed to allocate eight graves in the new cemetery for engineers who cannot afford burial expenses, without charging them or their families. Additionally, the union has approved the construction of a new club in Qena City and the development of its branch in the New Valley Governorate.
The union has also taken steps to improve its services and infrastructure. The council has approved the formation of a committee to prepare a detailed project for the implementation of a "practicing engineer" system, which aims to enhance professional development and training. The union has also decided to authorize a committee to study proposals for the renovation and development of its theater and to review an offer from the Actors' Union to rent the theater.
Finally, the Engineers' Union has made several other decisions, including the allocation of a commercial mall in a housing project in New Cairo, the follow-up of construction work on a new club in Asyut, and the generalization of procedures for obtaining ISO certification for its branches. The union's council has also approved the minutes of various committee meetings.
