On September 26, 2026, Ahmed El-Asqalani, Deputy Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, conducted an inspection of the passenger screening system at Cairo International Airport. This visit was part of the directives issued by Finance Minister Ahmed Kujuk and Customs Authority Head Ahmed Amwi to continuously improve customs operations, expand facilitation and easing procedures, and accelerate the pace of completing procedures to support tourism and trade.
During his visit, El-Asqalani held an extensive meeting with officials from the passenger screening section at various Egyptian airports. The attendees included general and department managers, as well as several customs officers and inspectors representing airports such as Aswan, Luxor, Marsa Alam, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, Sohag, Cairo, and Alexandria.
El-Asqalani listened to the visions and proposals of the customs officials and inspectors, as well as the challenges and observations they face at different work sites. He emphasized the importance of direct communication with employees and utilizing their practical experiences and suggestions to develop performance and improve procedures without compromising regulatory tasks.
The Deputy Head of Customs stressed that facilitating procedures, providing good reception and treatment, and speedy completion are essential pillars for supporting tourism and enhancing Egypt's competitiveness. He also emphasized the need to continuously work on reducing passenger transit times, providing the best level of service, and maintaining efficient customs control by applying risk management methods and targeted inspection.
El-Asqalani highlighted that customs officers are among the most important faces that represent Egypt to its visitors from different countries. He pointed out that good reception, treatment, speedy completion, and accurate performance all contribute to forming a positive image of Egypt.
El-Asqalani praised the development witnessed by EgyptAir in performance and services, reflecting a dignified image of Egyptian aviation before travelers worldwide. He stated that this development represents a driving force for various entities operating at airports to continue improving their performance in line with the evolution of the air transport system.
The meeting also discussed aspects of coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation regarding developing the inspection and targeting system. They explored the possibility of using X-ray devices before entering luggage into conveyor belts to support the pre-targeting system, enhance inspection efficiency, and accelerate procedures within an integrated risk management system.
