The governor of Asyut, Mohamed Elwan, announced that the campaigns, which were carried out by the Asyut Supply Directorate, in coordination with external supply administrations, aimed to ensure compliance with supply and legal requirements. The campaigns covered various aspects, including bakeries, markets, and fuel stations. Asyut governor emphasized that the campaigns are part of the state's efforts to monitor markets and prevent price manipulation or subsidized goods misuse.
The campaigns resulted in the seizure of 142 kilograms of meat, poultry, and fish that were unfit for consumption. Additionally, authorities discovered an unlicensed food storage facility containing 320 bottles of mineral water that were also unfit for consumption. Furthermore, 1,450 expired packages and 80 unlabelled yogurt containers were confiscated. The authorities also found 40 kilograms of honey without labels and 5 tons of subsidized sugar that were short in weight.
The authorities also uncovered a cleaning supplies warehouse that was producing and counterfeiting famous brand labels. Moreover, 30 bags of agricultural fertilizers, specifically allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture, were found to be circulating in the markets. The campaigns also led to the seizure of 9,860 liters of diesel and gasoline that were hoarded by some fuel stations.
In the field of bakeries, the campaigns resulted in 550 violations, including underweight bread, production of non-compliant bread, and lack of cleanliness. Authorities also found that some bakeries were disposing of subsidized flour without justification. Moreover, 350 ration cards were confiscated from a bakery owner who was hoarding them illegally.
The governor of Asyut emphasized that the campaigns will continue to be carried out intensively and unexpectedly across the governorate. Authorities will take legal action against all violations and will not tolerate practices that harm citizens' rights or the safety of goods and products in the markets.
The campaigns also resulted in the closure of six commercial establishments and 14 violations for not displaying prices of subsidized goods. Authorities also recorded 23 violations for not having health certificates and 44 violations for not displaying prices in shops, cafes, and restaurants.
The governorate of Asyut prioritizes market control and combating commercial fraud and price manipulation of subsidized goods. The authorities aim to provide safe goods to citizens at set prices and protect consumer rights.
