The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, in collaboration with the South Sinai Governorate, has initiated a comprehensive campaign to monitor food safety in the region. The campaign, led by the South Sinai Health Directorate, aims to ensure that food products meet health standards and are safe for consumption. As part of this effort, authorities inspected 34 food establishments and markets in the city of Tor Sinai.
During the inspections, authorities found several violations, including poor hygiene and lack of health certificates. A total of 46 violations were documented, with 25 related to general cleanliness and 21 related to the absence of health certificates. The campaign also involved collecting and testing food samples to verify their safety for human consumption.
The campaign resulted in the confiscation and destruction of 412 kilograms and 58 liters of expired or contaminated food products. Additionally, authorities seized 450 kilograms and 1789 liters of food products for further analysis and testing. The campaign also uncovered 83 kilograms of expired food products.
The South Sinai Health Directorate reported that a total of approximately 2.8 tons of food products were seized, confiscated, or destroyed during the campaign. The authorities have recommended closing three establishments due to severe health violations, posing a risk to public health. Legal actions will be taken against those responsible for the violations.
The campaign was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ashraf Fawzi, Director of Preventive Medicine, and in accordance with the instructions of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Dr. Ismail Kamal, Governor of South Sinai. The effort aims to ensure the safety of food products for residents, visitors, and tourists in the region.
