Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, joined his Spanish counterpart, Luis Planas, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, to inaugurate the Fruit Attraction 2026 international exhibition in Madrid, Spain. The event, which took place from October 6 to 8, 2026, was also attended by Egyptian Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, and Egyptian Ambassador to Spain, Ihab Badawi. The opening ceremony was attended by several businessmen, exporters, and high-ranking officials from prominent global companies specializing in the agricultural and export sectors.
During the exhibition, Minister Farouk inspected the Egyptian pavilion, highlighting the strong presence of Egyptian companies, with around 90 firms showcasing the quality of Egyptian agricultural products and the significant progress made in the sector. He interacted with exhibitors, investors, and Egyptian and foreign businessmen, listening to their views on expanding exports and opening new markets. Farouk emphasized the importance of the exhibition in facilitating direct communication with clients and negotiating export contracts and programs for the new season.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister Farouk held bilateral meetings with several officials to discuss enhancing cooperation, exchanging expertise, and facilitating agricultural trade between Egypt and Spain. The meetings also focused on increasing the accessibility of Egyptian agricultural products to international markets. Farouk highlighted the strategic importance of the Fruit Attraction exhibition as one of the largest international specialized events in the fresh produce sector.
The exhibition has witnessed significant growth, attracting over 120,000 visitors from 145 countries and featuring around 2,200 exhibitors from 59 countries in its previous edition. Minister Farouk emphasized that the Egyptian government is committed to providing all forms of support to the private sector as a key partner in achieving sustainable agricultural development. He noted that the Egyptian agricultural sector offers numerous promising investment opportunities, particularly in areas such as agricultural manufacturing, modern agriculture, packaging, and expanding reclaimed land.
Minister Farouk stressed that maintaining the reputation of Egyptian agricultural products in global markets is a top priority for the ministry. This is achieved through the application of high-quality standards, coding, tracking shipments, and strict enforcement of quarantine procedures. He confirmed that efforts will continue to address obstacles to export activities and access new markets worldwide.
