Egypt's tax authority, led by Rashaa Abdel Aal, will participate in the BRICS tax administration meetings in India from September 21-23. The meetings, hosted by India as part of its 2026 BRICS presidency, will bring together representatives from tax administrations of member countries. Abdel Aal emphasized that Egypt's participation aims to enhance cooperation, exchange experiences, and adopt best practices among BRICS tax administrations.
The Egyptian tax authority's participation is in line with directives from Finance Minister Ahmed Kujuk to strengthen cooperation with international institutions and engage with successful international experiences to develop the tax administration and enhance its efficiency. Egypt has been an active participant in BRICS since joining in 2024, contributing to specialized working groups and technical meetings throughout the year.
The meetings will focus on several key areas, including international taxation, transaction pricing, tax revenue statistics, and the modernization of value-added tax. The discussions will also cover the use of data sources and technological solutions in tax work, as well as human resource development and a client-centric approach.
The three-day meetings will conclude the work and discussions of the working groups throughout the year, starting with expert meetings on September 21-22 to review achievements and future plans. This will be followed by a meeting of BRICS tax administration heads and experts on September 23.
Abdel Aal highlighted that the meeting agenda includes initiatives related to building the capacity of young tax administration employees, promoting the role of women, and exchanging knowledge and experiences among member countries. The meetings will also focus on developing cooperation mechanisms that provide tax information and support the investment environment among BRICS countries.
On the sidelines of the meetings, Abdel Aal is scheduled to meet with Indian Finance Minister and several leaders of the Indian tax administration. She will also hold bilateral meetings with tax administration heads from member countries to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in areas of mutual interest.
